I played D&D exactly once... I was transformed into a thistle, carried around in a backpack for three hours, and at the end I was a thistle with experience.

Groo discovers that all of the women of the local towns have been abducted by striking, virile, young men in
airships. Without the women, the men of the villages are lost, there is no one to feed the animals, raise the
children, sew their clothes, till the fields, or even mulch. Not one to let a woman (or women) in distress go
unresolved, Groo decides to train the local men to be fierce fighters such as himself, for the price of room and
board that is. As it turns out however, Groo leads the usual one man assault on the captors of the towns women,
will he bring them liberation or slavery? |

While displaying his usual prowess for having a total disregard for life and suffering, Groo is coerced into
aiding a group of sailors in the relocation of human resources for the majesty's agricultural concerns. Convinced
to join at the promise of all the cheese dip he can eat, Groo quickly finds himself on a primitive island
capturing men to be sold into slavery. In his heart Groo knows this is wrong and quickly remedies the situation
only to find that the natives would also sell the other sailors into slavery. There are times when the lines of
allegiance resettle, where will Groo's lie. |

This tale of Groo comes in the form of a narrative from the Sage, who had spent time traveling with Groo. This
tale begins with the two journeying together in attempts to find the days next meal. Their adventure begins when
they visit a town in which the apple trees were burgeoning with fruit, yet the townspeople were all thin and starving,
believing that the fruit was sacred and anyone eating of it would suffer the wrath of the Gods. Journeying further,
the Sage and Groo come across a town in which the streets were lined with fat pigs, yet all of the townspeople were
thin and starving, believing that the animals are sacred and anyone eating of them would suffer the wrath of the Gods.
Groo in short time convinces the one town to attack and steal the others apples, then switching sides and leading a
raid on the latter villages pigs, enjoying the spoils of both battles Groo gorges himself in a feast of pork and apples,
incurring a double helping of the wrath of the Gods (Montezuma especially). |

As this issue begins Groo is entering a town, when he hears the song of the minstrel singing the praises of the
bravest of heroes. Of course Groo thinks that the song is about him and enters the tavern to enjoy his praises.
Arcadia however is the star of the minstrels song and this hero is soon to travel on a mighty quest. In need of
a good lackey, Arcadia brings Groo with him. Along the way Groo slays a dragon while Arcadia prepares for battles,
as well when Groo charges the tower, Arcadia is burning sage and other herbs preparing for the attack. At last
when their goal is within sight, Groo single handedly defeats the hordes and retrieves the prize, while Arcadia
gets all the credit without ever having lifted his swords. |
